7/365 View from the bridge

From Blackfriars Bridge – waiting at Blackfriars station for a (delayed) train.

Next time I’m planning that particular journey I’ll take the wide-angle lens.  This one can’t really do justice to this view!

Technical notes:

Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF 1/50 @ f/4 ISO 800.

6/365 Fire

It has been truly freezing the last few days.  Monday’s snow took till Wednesday evening to thaw.  Here’s Tuesday’s picture; a warming shot of fire.   Keeping the faith with the 50mm lens.  More variety coming soon though – promise!

Technical notes:

Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF 1/60 @ f/4, ISO 800. In-built flash.

4/365 Sleepy Sunday

Lazing on the spare bed on a Sunday afternoon.

Again, I’m trying out using my 50mm f/1.8 lens without flash.  Yes, everyone should get one, whether Canon or Nikon owner – and I’m sure there’s an equally fabulous cheap prime lens from the other major manufacturers too…

Technical notes:

Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF 1/50 @ f/14. Experimenting with no flash.

3/365 Trip the trip, the light's fantastic

New wall lights put up this morning.  Tripped the trip switch, the light’s a lot more fantastic than it was.  Result – we’ve got rid of the old horrid cheap-looking ones, and no longer need to buy a separate reading light as there’s now enough room light from three of these.

Technical notes:

Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF 1/50 @ f/14. Experimenting with no flash.

2/365 As I was going up the stairs...I met a man who wasn’t there.  Day 2 (in a Big Brother sort of voice).

And for the observant amongst you, noooo shoes!

Technical notes:

Nikon D90, Nikkor 50mm f1.8 AF 1/60 @ f/1.8, SB-800 flash

Note to LJ readers: I will fix this so you don’t have to see big images inline at the weekend!

There’s a great article over at Photojojo of New Year’s Photography resolutions – check it out here.

Having read all of the suggestions, I decided that I already do some of them. Others aren’t practical for me. But… I might just try Project 365. It might be a bit more difficult to actually have the camera with me each day at some point but hey, others (Amanda,Simon, Michelle) have inspired me and I think I should give it a go!

Herewith, picture #1. Me. Ready for action.

1/365

Technical notes:
Nikon D90, Nikkor 18-200mm f3.5-5.6G IF-ED AF-S VR DX @122mm. 1/60 @ f/5.3. Flash in commander mode with SB-800 on half power behind me.
PS: Amanda / Spongey / Meeshy – best to post to a community or to a group on your f-list that people can opt in-and-out of? What worked for you?

Or what I got for Christmas.  Well, one particular present. It seems someone didn’t think there were enough photos of her on display at Christmas, so she got me this with a self-portrait on it. Cool, eh?

In other news, the mince pies went down a treat:

Going, going...

Three little birds, sat upon a log

The diet bit the dust for the Christmas break.  Variously, I can recommend:

  • Mary Berry’s Christmas Chocolate Log.  Recipe here. Picture of our version above.
  • Nigella’s Roast squash and sweet potato soup with buttermilk blue cheese sauce. No need to peel the squash or the sweet potato; we used low fat yogurt instead of buttermilk. Recipe here.
  • The Hairy Baker’s Old-fashioned sweet mince pies. Recipe here. Pastry has orange zest and juice in it. Yum. Even if mine were a little chewy – I think due to my adding too much juice.
  • The Hairy Biker’s Gammon with Spiced Marmalade Glaze and Two Zingy Salsas. Recipe here. As seen on Saturday Kitchen when both bikers and James Martin seemed very flirty with Dervla Kirwan. You boil the gammon in fruit juice, then when it’s cooked roast it with some glaze, and finish with pineapple & chilli and beetroot, apple & mint salsas. Easy enough to do (especially when you can wash up as you go).
  • Homemade cranberry sauce. Very easy; boil cranberries, sugar and orange juice and zest until done. Beats the stuff in a jar into a cocked hat.

Gym (to work all of that off) starts again on Monday!
